About Dan
After a pleasant and uneventful childhood spent entirely in Greenwich, CT, I joined the military at 17 and was inducted as a midshipman into the United States Naval Academy.I joined the military because I believe strongly in its mission: to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and to protect world national security.
After graduating from the Naval Academy in 1999, I spent over seven years on active duty in the Navy. I made three deployments to the Persian Gulf on a destroyer and a cruiser, to include participating in offshore security operations before and during the Iraq War.
The Navy was an incredibly exciting, challenging, and, most importantly, meaningful way to spend my twenties. However, I eventually recognized that due to the sacrifices military members must make – spending many months, and even years, away from their families on training and deployments – that I did not want to make a career of military service.
I was honorably discharged from the Navy in 2006 and entered Harvard Business School in 2007, earning my MBA in 2009. I then began a career in finance with experience at White River Investment Partners, State Street Bank, and Parnassus Investments.
In 2011, I set up my own hedge fund. After three to four years of running this fund by myself, I found it extremely lonely, and, moreover, I was not energized by the mission. I decided I wanted to work more directly for clients, with colleagues, and have the support and resources of a larger organization behind me, so I started as a financial consultant with my former broker dealer, now Equitable Advisors, in June of 2016.
I greatly enjoy my time at Equitable, so much that I never plan on leaving.
Outside of work I enjoy walking (I have a 6.9 mile a day average for 2023, so let’s do some steps together!), taking strength training classes at YuBalance near where I live in the Inner Sunset, and spending time with my nine-year-old niece and seven-year-old nephew who live in SF, as well as other family members and friends.
