Before I moved to California, I had spent the previous winter in Minnesota and the previous summer in North Carolina. My graduate career at Berkeley was about 15 minutes old when I decided I would stay in the Bay Area forever.
When I went to college, I wasn’t sure whether to major in English or Engineering. Due to the prerequisite structure, if the first choice didn’t work out and I wanted to change majors, it would have been easier to transfer from Engineering to English than the other way around.
I gave the engineers a go first. Found bright shiny toys and loved it so much I didn’t get into any more Shakespeare until I was a junior.
